Archibald was a carter and ploughman from North Uist. He joined the Army Reserve on 23 February 1916, and entered service on 31 August 1916. Was drafted for the British Expeditionary Force on 16 December 1916, joined 8th Entrenching Bn 6 January 1917, was in Drake Bn 3 March until 23 April 1917. Gunshot wound in forearm and neck on 27 April 1917 and was invalided to UK. Drafted BEF on 1 September 1917, joined Drake Bn 19 September 1917 until his death.
Was in 16th Platoon Drake Bn at time of death.

Archibald appears in the 1901 census aged 4, the son of Alexander (58) and Catherine (34) at Hosta, North Uist. His siblings are Angus (9) and Catherine (2).
