Stornoway Gazette, 5 July 1918
Last week, Mrs Peter Macaskill received intimation of the death in action of her younger son, Pte Roderick Macaskill. The news caused the deepest regret and sorrow, not only in the home of which he was the sole support, but also throughout the whole island. Of a reserved but kindly disposition, Pte Macaskill was highly respected by all who knew him. Deep sympathy is extended to his widowed mother now bereft of a dutiful son, and to all his relatives.
