Eochdar, South Uist, Lance Corporal John Morrison
Police Constable Angus Morrison, Inverness Constabulary Staffin, Skye, has received intimation through father MacNeil, of Eriskay, Chaplain, with the Cameron Highlanders on France, that his brother, Lance Corporal John Morriosn was killed in action in France about the 25th September. Corporal Morrison was a son of the late and much respected Mt Alex Morrison, merchant, Eochar, Soth Uist. He enlisted in the 3rd (Reserve) Cameron Highlanders two years ago, and at the outbreak of the War, he was transferred to the battalion under the command of their intrepid Chief, Lochiel. Prior to the outbreak of war Lance Corporal Morriosn was employwed at Eochar assisting his father in business, where he was well known and greatly esteemed. The gallant corporal was only 20 years of age, a fine specimen of a soldier, tall and active, as modest, intelligent, kindly and gentle a lad as ever left Uist. Corporal Morrison’s father died only in September last, and the sympathy of the Uist community has ben extended towards the bereaved widow and family in their double bereavement. They have one consolation in their hour of sorrow that their gallant son and brother died nobly for a sacred cause-King, Home and Country.
A brother of the deceased, Corporal Donald Morrison, Cameron Highlanders, also took part in the fighting, he being previously wounded, and present at Cameron Barracks, Inverness.
